December

When I heard I was chosen for the Athlete Spotlight my first thought was somewhere between...cool! and why me?
I joined The Loop around October of this year and can honestly say that in 35 years of working out I have never experienced a gym as unique and welcoming as the Loop. The coaches are nothing short of amazing in their knowledge and ability to motivate! This place has a palpable energy that I feel when I walk through the door. I love it!

A little about me........
I'm the guy that can't do pull ups and has bloody shins from deadlifting. I retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 2007 and moved to Castle Rock. Now I work for Denver Fire Dept as a Fire Systems Technical Specialist.....not quite as sexy as a being a firefighter...ha ha! My wife Lisa aka the greatest woman in the world and I have been married for 25 years and raised two awesome kids. Outside of the gym Lisa and I enjoy riding the Harley and cruising in my old Dodge. We love margaritas!

It's all Lisa's fault......
All of my adult life my chosen form of exercise has always been weightlifting. My attitude towards cross fit was not good and I said I would never do it! Well, strange things happen. Lisa joined the Loop about 3 months after I had shoulder surgery in October of 2015. She would tell me about all the great the people and how cool the box was, however, I still maintained my 'never cross fit' attitude. So....guess what? I reluctantly came to a Loop running workout one Saturday and almost died...pretty sure I saw Jesus....it sucked. Then a few months later my long time workout partner broke up with me....he gave me the old 'it's not you, it's me' story. Another month or so went by and I decided to try it one more time. I almost died....it sucked.....except this time I kinda liked it! Now I can't get enough and get excited to go and 'die' at the box. It's funny how Lisa can get me to do things I don't want to like running the Denver half marathon but that's another story. I just pray she doesn't get into cliff diving.

In closing........
I want to thank the coaches and athletes at the Loop. I am impressed every time I go with your abilities, attitudes and hard work. This box is not just another gym. There is a feeling of family and a strong sense of community and I am glad to be a part of it! Again, thank you all and thank you Lisa!
